Markree Castle Wedding

YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE

"Until you pick the perfect venue, your wedding is a series of dreams and ideas, so selecting the right place can take time. Firstly, try to decide what's important to you your top three 'must-haves. This could be an exclusive venue, like Markree Castle rooms it could be driven by the number of guests, the style of service that you want or the space for your civil ceremony. Once you have a clear idea of what you are looking for, you can begin to narrow down your search. Let me know if there's anything else I can assist you with.

Your 'must haves' as mentioned above, are a good place to start - if you would like exclusive use, is there additional accommodation on the grounds or nearby? How many guests can be accommodated, details of the menus available, where will the evening's entertainment take place and until what time?

THE CEREMONY

I would ask if the ceremony can be held indoors or outdoors and whether there is a dedicated wedding coordinator available. Look for a venue with an experienced team who you can trust to oversee every detail and make your wedding dreams a reality." Contact the venue for the celebration cost or request the Markree Castle wedding brochure.

CAPTURING YOUR DREAM WEDDING IN MARKREE CASTLE

Stephanie at her wedding day in Markree Castle.

Markree Castle is an old Irish country mansion in Collooney Co. Sligo, and actually on my doorstep. It's the venue where I work the most in Sligo. Every year I shoot a lot of weddings in this venue. If you consider a castle wedding it's number one not only in Sligo, but I think is one of the finest castles in Ireland. Today's wedding at Markree Castle tells the laid-back story of Stepanie and Jack, who get married in Markree Chapel with celebration and late-night dancing in Markree Castle. It was nice to photograph all the drink reception when guests flooded outside to enjoy champagne in the sunshine. This time I work with one of my recommended videographers.

What the current appearance of Markree Castle is?

Markree Castle looks different today than it was a couple of years ago. Now it's an amazing place with high-quality service and an impressive interior design to the highest standard. Starting from accommodation for couples in Markree Castle a beautiful detail-decorated dining room and an old chapel with lots of character. It can make an impact when you see it live.

Also, their garden is perfect for your wedding photos. I do not like it if it's over-manicured. If the area is more natural-looking it's better for your natural-looking photographs. If you consider a castle celebration for your big day this is your number one, not only in Sligo but I think is one of the finest castles in Ireland

The Castle Venue

You visit Markree Castle for the first time and you will know straight away "I love to get married here". From the luxurious dining room to the entertainment suite downstairs in the basement for the party after the meal. As dog lovers we loved the Irish Wolfhound Roisin that lived at the castle and were eager to include her in our wedding, she even made it to our pictures. Having the whole castle for ourselves is so great.

The choice of the month was July, this is the best time for the wedding party. We were lucky with the weather to be able to have our drinks reception on the castle terrace and our photographs were taken among the beautiful grounds which included a charming boathouse. Not every wedding is as relaxed as this one.

Do not wait. If you are about to check to get married in 2021 let's check this wedding venue. Contact Markree Castle wedding team, Nicholas or Dierdre. They are there to show you the interior of the place and the grounds. They will provide you with all the information about the cost of a wedding at Markree Castle. Additionally, after an extensive renovation, Markree Castle rooms have become even more beautiful.

Stephanie and Jack had a beautiful bohemian-style Markree Castle wedding in Collooney, Co. Sligo. Here's a to-do list for winter wedding couples.

If you're planning a wedding photoshoot and want to choose a beautiful castle as your backdrop, it can be overwhelming to decide which one to go for. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice:

  1. Consider the location - Do you want a castle that's close to the city, or do you prefer a more rural setting? Think about the location of the castle and how it will fit with your overall wedding plans.

How did you meet originally and get together?

  • Introduced through friends to only realise we were also neighbours!

How did the proposal go, if there was one?

  • New Year’s Eve, just the two of us and some candles

Could you sum up your wedding in a couple of sentences – how would you describe the look/theme of the day and the overall vibe?

  • The overall look was an antique and vintage aesthetic with contemporary elements to reflect our personal style. From the dresses to the invites, everything is related to one another through colour, style and texture. The month very much influenced the choices made. February whilst spring can feel quite chilly still. We kept a fresh colour palette with elements of darker tones to ground everything. Blending different textures and materials throughout the clothing, flowers and accessories helped create harmony and balance without everything “matching”.

What was important to you about your wedding - what were your priorities from the very beginning?

  • Stay true to who we are and make sure all our guests and we have the best time!

What made your venue “the one”?

  • The setting and every small detail of Markree Castle really were everything we hoped for. The character and integrity of the castle have been superbly renovated to reflect an old world and opulent feel. The Chapel inside the castle really was the winning ticket for us. Absolutely stunning! It allowed for us to have a wonderfully intimate ceremony with our closest friends and family in an utterly beautiful setting.

What inspired your wedding aesthetic?

  • Authentically vintage and antique elements with an overall natural and relaxed feel to the day. The season and venue also influenced a lot of our choices.

What made the day really special and personal to you? (Things you included, unusual elements, things that people made or did for you, etc.)

  • Looking back, we are so delighted with how everything turned out. On the day everything seemed to fall into place and run seamlessly without any stress! I think overall we tried to not “over plan” and just make a conscious decision to enjoy every minute. The staff at the hotel were fantastic and made everything so easy! A really lovely touch for us was having “bohemian strings” the string quartet for the ceremony. Their music created the perfect mood. Personal and special touches for us were the bride’s sister designing the invites and the bride making the Bouquets and buttonholes (well ahead of time!) It was a lovely creative outlet that turned out to be surprisingly stress-free!

What was your first dance?

  • Bell X1 “Eve the apple of my eye”

What was your favourite ceremony reading or piece of music?

  • The grooms did a reading that was also used as a voice-over for our video

What advice would you give to other couples planning their day?

  • Enjoy it to the fullest, and stay true to who you are.

Wedding in Lough Rynn Emma & John

Lough Rynn's wedding of Emma and John. Check out Emma's fabulous dress.

On the day with a great team :

Jason McGarrigle on video, Sarah Keogh doing her makeup magic with girls also Irma Butkus as a hairstylist. The beautiful wedding bouquet was done by Gemma from Eden Flowers. The wet morning turned out to be spectacular sunshine time we went to the walled garden in Lough Ryn to take a few pictures. Also, we can't forget about Fredie the dog who poses for some pictures together with the bride and groom.

Location Of Lough Rynn

With its winding driveway, lakeside setting, walled garden, 300 private acres and handsome façade Lough Rynn is in every bit the fairytale venue. Inside you'll find grandly proportioned rooms, open fires, four poster beds and service befitting the ancestral home of Lord Leitrim. The Baronial Hall is especially impressive for a drinks reception.

From the elegant decor to the luxurious accommodation and exquisite food (packages start from €67 per guest) you and up to 320 guests can celebrate in style. And with such beautiful grounds, your photographer will be spoilt for choice when snapping those perfect shots.

Lough Rynn Castle Wedding

A wedding is a magical and unforgettable event, and having it in Lough Rynn Castle makes it even more special. Ireland has a rich history and culture, and the castles in the country are a testament to that. Wedding photography in an Irish castle is a popular choice among couples who want to make their big day even more memorable.

One of the main reasons why couples choose to have their wedding in an Irish castle is the stunning scenery. The castles are often situated in beautiful locations, with rolling hills and picturesque landscapes. The Lough Rynn castle itself is a work of art, with stunning architecture and intricate details that make it the perfect backdrop for wedding photography.

Irish Castle Wedding

When it comes to wedding photography in an Irish castle, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, you'll want to find a photographer who is experienced in shooting in castles. Lough Rynn Castle interiors can be dark, so it's important to find a photographer who knows how to work with natural light and can create stunning images in any lighting conditions.

Another consideration is the weather. Ireland is known for its unpredictable weather, and even in the summer months, rain can be a factor. You'll want to discuss a backup plan with your photographer in case the weather doesn't cooperate. They should be able to work with you to create a plan that ensures you get beautiful photos no matter what the weather is like on the day.

One of the best things about having your wedding in an Irish castle is the opportunity to take stunning outdoor photos. The castle grounds offer endless possibilities for creating beautiful images, from the castle walls and turrets to the gardens and surrounding countryside. Your photographer should be able to guide you on the best locations for your photos, based on your preferences and the lighting conditions.

In addition to outdoor photos, you'll also want to capture the interior of the castle. The grand hallways, ornate staircases, and beautiful bedrooms all offer opportunities for stunning photos. Your photographer should be able to work with you to create a shot list that captures all the special moments of your day, from getting ready for the ceremony to the reception.

In conclusion, wedding photography in an Irish castle is a wonderful way to create unforgettable memories of your special day. With stunning scenery, rich history, and beautiful architecture, the castle is the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos. Make sure to find an experienced photographer who can work with you to capture all the special moments of your day, both indoors and outdoors, and be prepared for any weather conditions. With the right photographer and location, you'll have beautiful photos that you'll treasure for

LOUGHCREW HOUSE WEDDING

The Loughcrew House wedding

Loughcrew House Venue

Loughcrew House & Gardens Wedding is a wedding venue based in Oldcastle not far from our home town of Kells, Co. Meath and my mother Jess suggested we take a look. It was the first venue we viewed and we instantly knew it was the one for us. We have a beautiful civil ceremony in ruins following by party in an awesome rustic barn. It all creates a perfect afternoon cocktail party. Photos will tell you all about this festival wedding party.

Uniqueness

We had a humanist ceremony in the ruin in Loughcrew Gardens. It was really relaxed and made us feel at ease. We are both passionate about music so had more music than readings and rituals. From The Shirelles to Macklemore, we made sure all of our favourite songs provided the soundtrack to our ceremony. Some of our friends and family sing in the Gospel Choir which made it extra special.

My bridal party consisted of my two sisters; Ciara and Nessa, and my best friend Fergus. Everyone thought it was unusual to have a bridesman but he has been in my life forever so it was just perfect to have him by my side. He loves style so it was easy to find an outfit with him to match my sisters skirt and top combo.

Brendan’s best man (and brother) Gavin and his groomsman (and best friend) Gerry both travelled from Australia to spend the day with us. This made our few days extra special as it was a reunion of all the gang from Oz back on our shores.

We never eat wedding cake at weddings so we opted for a signature drink after the meal instead. They looked great and made sure everyone was ready to dance after their drink!

My dad Ray showed clips of old home movies for his speech. It was such a surprise and brought the house down. I was mortified but was delighted at the same time.

My sister Nessa conducts the Gospel Choir that sang at our ceremony.

My sister Ciara was my right hand woman in wedding planning. She came to meetings with suppliers and as she is the business brain of the family she was great at negotiating!

Here is few words from Kate and Brendan about their amazing day in Loughcrew House Wedding Estate What should I write about this... Chilled out vibes and  fun... lots of fun. Kate in her original Mooshki dress. Brendan and his "gang" with their totally laid back manners. Plus the choice was instead of a cake, we had a signature cocktail, Cosmos and Old fashioned. Jacks Railway Bar Kells was the bar.

How did you meet originally and get together?

We’ve known each other since our teens and are both from the same town of Kells, Co. Meath, Brendan and his friends drank in my family pub so it was inevitable we would get together someday! I used to serve him free drinks so he would get the hint, although my dad would kill me if he knew that!! Ha! We are together for ten years and now both live in Dublin 8. Brendan works as a barber in Ranelagh and I work as a television researcher in RTE.

The proposal

Brendan surprised me at Christmas with a trip to Iceland. He had secretly been designing a ring with jeweller Eva Lynch and got down on one knee with the ring on our first night in Iceland. When we arrived home from Iceland, my family were at the airport with signs and made a show of us!

What inspired you?

While we didn’t set out with a theme in mind, as we began to plan we realised we were both drawn to an informal country chic style. Loughcrew Gardens is a DIY venue which meant we had a lot of freedom to pull off our theme.

The groom and groomsmen spent the day before the wedding hanging all of the lights. Brendan’s sister Aoife and my sister Ciara did readings at the ceremony.

What was your favourite moment of the day?

It's so hard to pinpoint one moment of the day as a favourite, but I think both of us enjoyed the ceremony the most. Sally our humanist made us feel so at ease and the last song, Can’t Hold Us, by Macklemore, set a real party atmosphere for the rest of the day.

What advice would you give to brides and grooms planning their day?

If you are having a DIY wedding, make sure to find a seasoned caterer. Our caterers were a great source of support and advice throughout the planning and were so efficient on the day liaising with the bar staff, the venue staff and the guests.

If you both have a clear idea of what your dream wedding should be in your mind, don’t let anything or anyone stray you off your path! It will all be worth it!
