HOW DID YOU PICK HORETOWN HOUSE?
We looked at four venues and knew as soon as we met Niamh, Graham and the team at Horetown that it was the venue for us. I am from Wexford and Ivans family have been going there on holidays for years so it was the perfect fit.
SOMETHING UNIQUE YOU INCLUDED IN THE DAY?
My mam had kept my nana’s wedding dress from the fifties. We were talking about the dress one day and after seeing a picture of Vikki in it I just knew that was what I wanted and we set about figuring out how to incorporate it into the day! I absolutely loved the idea of Vikki wearing it and my mam made two replicas for my other gorgeous bridesmaids Anna & Emma. Vikki wore the original! I was always close to my nana and it really made her feel part of the day. Ivans brother Jonathan conducted the ceremony on the day for us and we had friends and family help us from start to finish. Our uncle made the wedding cake, which was a huge hit and even did a vegan top layer, which is a great accomplishment!! We both absolutely loved the ceremony; the ceremony was unique to us and everyone there played a special part. So many people travelled to be with us and see them all laughing and having the best time was so special!
ADVICE TO OTHER COUPLES PLANNING THEIR DAY?
Try not to take it too seriously, it will all fall into place. Trust your vendors they are there to make it as easy as possible for you and in our experience that was 100% the case. Everyone we were lucky enough to have with us on the day and in the lead up were incredibly professional and helped create a lovely peaceful vibe throughout!
WHAT’S YOUR LOVE STORY
We met in work years nine years ago and were always great friends. After a couple of years, our situations changed and we were quickly in a relationship. Ivan said he had loved me on first sight and even told the story of when he first saw me in his wedding speech. We went travelling for a year through South America and then a few months in south-east Asia. Ivan had decided at some point to ask me on my 30th birthday when we would be in Vietnam. He booked an amazing hotel, which, after months of hostels and bunk beds was a nice change of pace. He had also gotten all my friends and family to write me a card and hand them out in Vietnam so I could have a big surprise in the morning. I then went for spa treatments and when I came back to the room, he got down on one knee. It was such a special day!Was there a theme, colour scheme or central idea for your wedding, and if so what inspired it? We didn’t focus on colours or schemes but once we decided to use my nana’s wedding dress like my sister Vikki’s bridesmaid dress it all feel into place.
